Veteran Journalist G Sekharan Nair Passes Away At 75
Over the course of his long career, Nair won over 30 accolades, including three state media awards.
Veteran journalist and former Thiruvananthapuram bureau chief of "Mathrubhumi" Daily, G Sekharan Nair passed away at a private hospital, news agency PTI quoted his family members as saying.
He was 75 and had been undergoing treatment for heart-related issues for some time, his family said. Nair, who had joined the Mathrubhumi in the 1980s, spent a number of years working in several bureaus and at the desk of the renowned daily.
Known for his in-depth investigative reports and political write-ups, Nair also wrote several news series on corruption in several government departments, including the housing board, motor vehicle department, and health. These news series attracted great attention.
Over the course of his long career, Nair won over 30 accolades, including three state media awards. He was recently recognised by the Kerala Assembly for completing 25 years of reporting on House sessions.
He was also the Kerala Journalists Union and Thiruvananthapuram Press Club's officer-bearer. Nair is survived by his wife and two children.
Sekharan Nair's career as a journalist, according to Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, was a profound reflection of his dedication to the profession and society.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed condolences on Sekharan Nair's demise and recalled how his writings on many political and social issues drew a great deal of attention and had an impact on society.
He also recalled Nair as someone who was always engaged in social issues and who kept up strong relationships even with people who opposed him.
Nair was formerly the face of the Mathrubhumi daily in Thiruvananthapuram, according to VD Satheesan, leader of the opposition in the assembly. He added that Nair not only excelled in journalism but also carved his own niche in the sector.
Speaker AN Shamseer described him as a journalist with a social commitment.
