Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur, the Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) officer Hemendra Kumar Kandpal shot himself dead with the rifle taken from his home guard on Sunday.
The SDM committed suicide at his official residence. Uttar Pradesh police chief OP Singh said, “He asked for the rifle from his home guard and went inside his room and shot himself.” Further, a thorough investigation will be initiated in the matter.
Although the reason why he committed suicide was not known immediately, the family of the deceased says that Hemant Kumar Kandpal was very upset due to his posting in Lalitpur.
Hemant Kumar's family is originally from the Almora district of Uttarakhand and the family is currently shifted to Bareilly. The wife of the deceased police officer says that Kandpal was in tension due to his transfer and no official was ready to hear the matter. She also says that she will not allow the body to be moved unless she talks to CM Yogi Adityanath.
Last month in UP, Surendra Kumar Das, an officer of the 2014 batch, who was posted in Kanpur as Superintendent of Police City (East) had committed suicide after consuming the poisonous substance.
