The cop who was killed in the clashes has been identified as Subodh Kumar Singh posted as an SHO in Syana. District Magistrate of Bulandshahr, Anuj Jha confirmed Singh's death.
Post-mortem reports revealed that Singh died due to receiving bullet which struck him near his left eye.
A man named Sumit who suffered bullet injuries also died during medical treatment in a Meerut hospital. A vehicle parked in the area was found loaded with carcasses of animal (allegedly cow) which outraged certain Hindu groups which resorted to stone-pelting and arson.
Protesters blocked the Syana-Meerut Highway and pelted stones at policemen who had reached the spot. Tension escalated and took the form of firing in which a police inspector was killed and two others were injured. The angry mob also vandalised Chingrawathi police chowki and set many vehicles on fire.
ADG Anand Kumar said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to look into the matter.
He informed that 5 policemen have been injured and three civilians have also suffered injuries but there hasn't been a case of any serious injury so far.
As per the latest update, the situation is now under control in the area.
