Five persons died, and eleven were injured when a piece of an ancient structure fell near the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, according to Mathura District Magistrate Pulkit Khare, news agency PTI reported. "An unfortunate incident happened this evening after a roof and wall of a building collapsed near Banke Bihari Temple, in which five people were killed," Khare stated.
The incident occurred in the evening, the police claimed, adding that a large portion of a balcony collapsed on devotees passing past the home first, and as operation to rescue people trapped beneath the debris was underway, a wall of the structure collapsed. According to Vrindavan SHO Vijay Kumar Singh, a pair of monkeys were fighting on the balcony when it fell.
According to Mathura police, all those who were trapped beneath the debris have been rescued and sent to a nearby hospital.
According to authorities, 11 persons were injured, four of them were critically injured.
Speaking about the incident, Mathura SSP Shailesh Kumar Pandey stated: "The police were coincidentally present near the site of the incident. All people who were under the debris have been rescued and shifted to a local hospital. Around 11 people were injured, of them four are critical."
All of those injured were taken to a hospital, where five people, including three women, were confirmed dead, according to the official, who added that their names were being determined.
