Is It Time For My Bollywood Debut? US Envoy Eric Garcetti Meets Shah Rukh Khan

Garcetti met Shah Rukh Khan at the actor's residence in Mannat in Mumbai and discussed about India's film industry.

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on Tuesday met Shah Rukh Khan at the actor's residence in Mannat in Mumbai and discussed about India's film industry as well as the "huge cultural impact" of Bollywood across the globe.

"Is it time for my Bollywood debut? Had a wonderful chat with superstar Shah Rukh Khan at his residence Mannat, learning more about the film industry in Mumbai and discussing the huge cultural impact of Hollywood and Bollywood across the globe," Garcetti tweeted.

Garcetti's Mumbai trip comes a day after he visited Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He paid homage to the 'Father of Nation' Mahatma Gandhi and was also seen spinning the 'charkha' at the ashram.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Garcetti stressed that the relationship between India and the United States was based on a common desire to have stronger economies and a peaceful, prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

"Our relationship is not based on anyone else. It is based on each other, it is based on a warmth of friendship, and it's based on a common desire to have stronger economies and a peaceful, prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Wherever that is challenged, we stand together," Garcetti said.

The US Ambassador also said the two countries would deepen defence ties and work to develop things together in sectors like space and technology.

He also said that in the next couple of weeks, US Embassy in India would open up the next batch of student visas.

"I think we will show that this year we will be able to go past the earlier numbers and get to an even higher number. The President has told me to reduce visa issuance time not just for students but also for first-time visitors," Garcetti said when asked on the issue of US student visa.

Previously, the US Ambassador shared a video on his Twitter account detailing his trip to the Maharashtra Bhawan located in Delhi. "From the bustling streets of LA to the colorful lanes of Delhi, my love of great food continues. I'm at Maharashtra Bhawan, eager to explore the fascinating flavors of India. Join me on this journey as I sample the essence of India, one state at a time. Where should I go next?" he had tweeted.

On May 11, Garcetti and envoys from Qatar and Monaco submitted their credentials to President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
