UP: 2 Gangsters Get Death Penalty By Court For Killing NIA Officer, His Wife In Bijnor

New Delhi: A court in Bijnor condemned two gangsters to death on Saturday for the murder of a top National Investigation Agency official and his wife in the district six years ago. A day after convicting gangster Munir and his accomplice Rayan for shooting dead NIA Deputy Superintendent of Police Tanzil Ahmed and his wife Farzana on the night of April 2 and 3, 2016, Additional District Judge Vijay Kumar punished them, news agency PTI reported.

Three other defendants in the case, however, were acquitted after the trial, according to Bijnor Superintendent of Police Dharamvir Singh.

Singh said that the NIA Dy SP and his wife were killed while coming to Sahaspur after a wedding event in Sayohara district.

According to SP Singh, the couple was coming home with their children when miscreants ambushed their car at a culvert on the road and shot them dead.

He stated that in the aftermath of the shocking incident, a FIR was filed against unknown individuals under relevant provisions, including murder.

During the inquiry, the names Munir, Rayan, Jaini, Tanjim Ahmed, and Rizwan were mentioned in connection with the murder, according to the SP, adding that all of the accused were the NIA officer's neighbours and were detained and imprisoned.

According to Singh, based on the depositions of 19 prosecution witnesses in the case, the court acquitted Jaini, Tanjim Ahmed, and Rizwan while condemning Munir and Rayan.
