New Delhi: In view of Cyclone 'Jawad,' the University Grants Commission - National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) and an admission test of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) scheduled for Sunday have been postponed in various venues in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal.


The UGC-NET 2020 and June 2021 examinations have been postponed for centres in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and Puri, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur in Ganjam district, and Gunupur in Rayagada district, Odisha, according to a notice issued by the National Testing Agency on Friday.


The IIFT's MBA (International Business) entrance test has been postponed in Kolkata and Durgapur in West Bengal, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Sambalpur in Odisha, and Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, it said.


The date of the exam for applicants approved to the exam centres in the indicated cities will be notified later, according to the NTA.


Candidates are informed, however, that the postponement applies just to the locations specified, and the test will be held in all other cities in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and other states as scheduled, according to the statement.

On Friday, the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal strengthened into Cyclone 'Jawad.'


The storm system is expected to reach the west-central Bay of Bengal near the shores of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha by Saturday morning, according to the India Meteorological Department.
