Twitter Accounts Operated From Pakistan: Delhi Police On Fake Video Instigating Communal Disharmony
“After investigation we discovered that those accounts were operated from Pakistan,” the senior police official added.
New Delhi: Carrying forward its investigation in connection with the morphed video of a cabinet meeting doing the rounds on social media, the Delhi Police on Sunday said the Twitter account handles that came into cognizance were operated from Pakistan.
“46 Twitter account handles came into cognizance when a superimposed video with voiceovers was shared on changes made in Indian Army from an anti-community angle,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) KPS Malhotra, chief of the IFSO (Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations) – the Delhi Police’s cyber cell unit – said, ANI reported.
“After investigation we discovered that those accounts were operated from Pakistan,” the senior police official added.
“A morphed video of Cabinet Committee meeting after CDS Gen Rawat's demise has been circulated with the ill-intent to create social discord in Sikh community. Case has been registered against propagators of the said video on Social media. We urge you to exercise caution. @CPDelhi,” the Delhi Police tweeted earlier on Friday.
The Delhi Police had earlier registered a case under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after it was found that the morphed video was circulated with the ill intent to instigate communal disharmony.
“During social media monitoring, our unit noticed that there are two tweets which are getting viral on social media on Twitter in which it was being propagated that the Government of India is taking decisions against the Sikh community. The said video was fact checked and it was found that the video was morphed and there was a voiceover. In reality, the video belongs to the day when the high-level powered committee was briefing the honourable PM regarding the demise of CDS General (Bipin) Rawat,” DCP Malhotra said in the video message posted on Twitter.
“In this regard, taking into consideration the possibility of this particular act being malicious in nature and is trying to create disharmony among the various religions, we have registered a case under Section 153A of the IPC and we have taken up the investigation. This said fact has also been checked by Press Information Bureau (PIB) of India and it has been found fake and with the malicious content,” he added.
