The Twitter account of Pakistan government has been witheld in India. The decision has been taken in response to a "legal demand", reported news agency ANI.

While trying to access the twitter handle one can see a message that says, "@GovtofPakistan account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand."

The Twitter feed of the Pakistan government "@GovtofPakistan" is not visible to Indian users at the moment.

According to ANI, the account was withheld earlier in July as well but was reactivated and was soon visible.

Such action by Twitter is taken in response to a valid legal demand, such as a court order, according to the guidelines of the microblogging site.

Previously, 16 YouTube news channels including six Pakistan-based channels were banned by the Centre for spreading disinformation related to India's national security, foreign relations, and public order.

Twitter in a statement has said if it "receives a valid and properly scoped request from an authorized entity, it may be necessary to withhold access to certain content in a particular country from time to time," reported news agency ANI.

Twitter in June this year had banned official accounts of Pakistan Embassies in UN, Turkey, Iran and Egypt.

Later in August, India blocked 8 YouTube-based news channels, including one operating from Pakistan. A Facebook account for posting "fake, anti-India content" online was also banned by the government.

According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting the decision to block the channels was taken by imposing emergency powers under Information Technology Rules, 2021.

The ministry in a release said that the blocked Indian YouTube channels were misleading people by using fake and sensational thumbnails, images of news anchors and logos of certain TV news channels.
