New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Saturday filed an FIR after taking suo motu cognisance of a viral video in which a man can be seen threatening a Muslim staff for opening his biryani shop in the national capital’s Sant Nagar area on the occasion of Diwali.


A senior police official told PTI that a case was registered under Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Burari Police Station after taking cognisance of the video and verifying the facts.

The officer added that a probe is underway to ascertain the identity of the accused and nab him.


Claiming to be a member of the Bajrang Dal, the man in the abusive video states his name is Naresh Kumar Suryavanshi.


Suryavanshi in the three-minute-long video, which is doing the rounds, asks the biryani seller who gave him permission to open his shop on Diwali.


Hurling abuses on the shopkeeper for opening the shop, he said: “This is a Hindu area.”


Threatening that the shop would be set on fire, Suryavanshi said: “Is this Jama Masjid. Aren't you scared? Is this your eid? What do you think of yourself?”


The man also warned the shopkeeper to not open the shop on any Hindu occasion.

“Hindus are in deep slumber. Wake up Hindus, these people do love jihad,” he said.


With the video going viral on social media, several people tagged the Delhi Police on Twitter and urged that action must be initiated against the abuser.
