New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday removed the blanket ban on holding silent protests at national capital’s Jantar Mantar and Boat Club.

The apex court stated that a “blanket ban” cannot be put on holding protests.

The order comes after National Green Tribunal had put a ban last year saying, people dirty the place and throw garbage while protesting; which in turn pollutes the environment.

After NGT ban, people on the other had claimed that it is their constitutional right to protest and that it is not possible to protest in Ram Lila Maidaan since it’s at a distance from the main political setup.

Jantar Mantar area in the capital has been a hotspot of many agitations over the past decades.
