Telangana Jagruthi, the cultural and social wing of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) led by MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, organised a massive protest at Indira Park, Hyderabad, on Friday. The protest coincided with the birth anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule and was held to demand the implementation of the Congress party’s Kamareddy BC Declaration.
The event, termed the "BC Maha Sabha," saw participation from BC communities across the state with calls for justice and enhanced representation for marginalized groups. Addressing the gathering, Kavitha emphasised the need for political accountability and social equity.

Kavitha stressed the importance of upholding the legacy of Savitribai Phule's movement while highlighting the historical marginalisation of BCs. She criticized the Congress for neglecting BC concerns, pointing to Jawaharlal Nehru's dismissal of the Kaka Kalelkar Commission report and the delay in implementing the Mandal Commission recommendations during Indira Gandhi's leadership.
Telangana BRS MLC K Kavitha: "We want the caste census to be conducted as part of the general census. Second and most important demand is to the state government here that they have promised to implement 42 per cent reservation to the BC communities. Our demand is that you implement this reservation and then only conduct the elections."
Meanwhile, the Kamareddy declaration made during last year’s Assembly elections pledged to raise BC reservations in local bodies from the current 23% to 42% within six months of coming to power. It also outlined plans for a Mahatma Jyotiba Phule BC sub-plan with statutory status, a commitment to allocate Rs 1 lakh crore over five years for BC welfare.
