The Delhi Police on Monday summoned Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on May 1 for allegedly sharing fake video regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah's video.
The police issued a notice to the Telangana CM and asked him to present his side on May 1. He has been asked to appear with his mobile phone allegedly used for posting the fake video on X (formerly Twitter). As per sources, Revanth Reddy's phone will also be investigated.
As per reports, five others, including some Congress leaders, who shared the doctored videos have also be summoned by the Delhi Police.
Earlier on Sunday, the Delhi Police registered a case after a complaint by the Ministry of Home Affairs in connection with the doctored video of Amit Shah. The Delhi Police filed the FIR under sections 153 (causing provocation with intention to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc), 465 (forgery), 469 (forgery to harm the reputation of any party), and 171G (publishing false statement with intent to affect the result of an election) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the Information Technology Act, the police said.
The FIR comes after a video of Shah's speech started went viral on social media, in which he could be heard saying, “If BJP comes to power, it will end the unconstitutional SC, ST, and OBC reservation.” The video was found doctored by several fact checking websites.
According to the complaint filed by Sinku Sharan Singh, DC, Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), some doctored videos are being circulated on social media with the intent of creating disharmony among communities which is likely to affect public tranquility and public order.
According to the complainant, links from which the videos were shared were also attached for further action. A copy of the FIR was also sent to the IFSO unit of the Delhi Cyber Police, as per PTI.
The sources in the Special Cell said that now arrests are likely to follow across the country.
Meanwhile, the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Special Cell has now approached social media platforms to identify the source of the video and those who have spread it.
