After Tamil Nadu's AIADMK has snapped ties with BJP-led NDA - just months before the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls, Bihar Deputy CM and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday stated that after Shiv Sena, JD(U) and Akali Dal, this split "is the big loss to BJP," news agency ANI reported. He said: "It clearly shows that NDA is meaningless now. Only one dictator is sitting there and two people are running the country."
Speaking with media, Bihar Deputy CM stated: "It is their matter. I won't be able to say much on this. DMK is very strong in Tamil Nadu. Congress and DMK alliance there is very strong. An NDA meeting was held a few days back but it yielded no results. There was no agenda...If you look at South India, then you would see that a major ally of NDA has quit the alliance."
AIADMK Deputy General Secretary KP Munusamy announced the split after a resolution was overwhelmingly agreed at a meeting of MPs, MLAs and district heads at the party's headquarters in Chennai. Partygoers hailed the news by blowing off firecrackers. "Based on the members' opinion we are taking this resolution. This is the happiest moment for AIADMK. We are very happy to face the upcoming elections whether it might be Parliament or Assembly elections," AIADMK Spokesperson Sasirekha said.
However, over AIADMK breaking alliance with BJP and NDA, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai said that he will speak about the matter later. "The national leadership will give a timely response on the AIADMK decision," he told reporters.
On AIADMK ending the alliance with BJP and NDA, BJP Leader CT Ravi said: "Eight months are left and what will happen in these months, we can't say anything today. To make the party strong is the duty of every worker. Under the leadership of K Annamalai a great work of strengthening the party is being done."
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rashid Alvi hailed AIADMK's decision and called it a good step. Speaking on the split, he stated: "If they have understood the ideology of NDA and BJP and took this decision after careful consideration and not for any bargaining with BJP, then it is a good step...BJP doesn't respect its allies. You saw Shiv Sena leave, you saw Akali Dal leave, several parties left them in UP."
"Many regional parties have severed ties with the BJP. Now the AIADMK has snapped the ties which indicates that the BJP's days are numbered," Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur stated.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, AIADMK formed an alliance with the BJP and won only one seat. Raveendranath Kumar, son of O Penneerselvam, was the AIADMK's sole victor. The AIADMK's massive drop in vote share was linked to its alliance with the BJP, since in 2014, when AIADMK campaigned alone, it won 37 of 38 Lok Sabha seats.
