Chennai: In a span of one month after Tamil Nadu was hit by a massive explosion at Neyveli Lignite Power Plant , at least seven people have been killed and several are said to be injured at a firecracker factory in Cuddalore district on Friday, as per the latest information. The reason for the explosion is yet to be ascertained as investigators are at the site to assess the situation in the factory located at Cuddalore's Kattumannarkoil , 190 km from the state capital Chennai.

However, as per the initial reports, the intensity of the blast was such that it impacted the structure bringing it down. As per reports, police and firefighters have been rushed to the accident site, an an investigation has been launched to ascertain the cause of the explosion.


The incident at Neyveli Lignite Power Plant took place in July in which a massive explosion in a boiler in stage -2 of the Neyveli lignite plant claimed at least five lives and severely injured 17 persons.

This blast was the second explosion at the power plant within two months. It should be noted that in the month of May, eight workers of NLC India Ltd were injured and hospitalised when a boiler in one of the power units exploded.

The power stations of the integrated mining-cum-power generating company are located at Neyveli in Cuddalore. The accident happened in the evening and the injured workers were admitted to the hospital.
