Around six persons died after an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Sattur area of Virudhunagar district on Saturday.


Fire & Rescue Department Officials told ANI, "An explosion took place at a firecracker manufacturing factory in the Sattur area of Virudhunagar district."


According to preliminary investigation, it is suspected that the blast has occurred while the workers were involved in the making of crackers at firecracker factory in Sattur of Virudhunagar.

Meanwhile, the police are yet to confirm the identity of the deceased persons. Initially, the police recovered the bodies of three persons and they later recovered the bodies of the other deceased persons from the debris.


According to Sattur Station Fire Officer J. Varadharaj, the incident occurred while workers were reportedly weighing chemicals and raw materials. The Vachakkarapatti Police have registered a case against four individuals, including factory owners Balaji and Sasibalan, under five sections, including causing death by negligence and employing workers without adequate safety measures.


Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the families of six men who lost their lives in an explosion at a fireworks factory in Sattur, Virudhunagar district, on Saturday.


The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.


The Fire Department responded swiftly to the incident, extinguished the blaze, and continues to conduct rescue operations.


Meanwhile, one person died and another person suffered injuries after a blast at a factory in Telangana on Saturday. The explosion at the factory in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district is suspected to be linked to magnesium used for production of explosive items.
