CBI To Probe Sushant Singh Rajput Case, Orders Supreme Court; Actor's Family And Bihar DGP Welcome Verdict

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said the CBI will investigate actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.

Sushant Singh Rajput News: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said the CBI will investigate actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death case. The apex court said the FIR registered by Bihar Police is correct, reference to CBI is lawful. It observed that the Bihar government is competent enough to transfer case to CBI for investigation. The top court today was hearing actor Rhea Chakraborty's petition seeking transfer of investigation the death case from Patna in Bihar to Mumbai. A bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy delivered the judgement. Upholding transfer of Patna FIR to CBI in the case, the court ruled that "if any other case is registered regarding Sushant Singh Rajput's death, the same shall be probed by CBI only." The 34-year-old actor was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14. Rajput's family has welcomed the verdict and is hopeful that the actor will get justice.
Speaking to reporters Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey said the entire country wanted a CBI probe and the Supreme Court has authorized it He said everyone saw the Mumbai Police's unethical, unprofessional and illegal behavior."It is not my personal fight. All we want is Sushant to get justice," told ABP News in a telephonic conversation. The Centre had earlier told the top court that it had accepted the recommendation of Bihar government for CBI probe into the FIR lodged at Patna by Rajput's father who believes Rhea Chakraborty and six others of various offences should be charged for of suicide.
In a clash between the two states' police forces, the Bihar government that political clout has not allowed Mumbai Police to even register an FIR in Rajput's case. Maharashtra government-led by Shiv Sena argued that Bihar does not have the jurisdiction in the matter. Chakraborty's lawyer had argued that FIR lodged by Rajput's father has absolutely no connection with any offence in Patna and there was considerable delay of around 38 days in its lodging. There was a growing chorus demanding a CBI probe in the Bollywood industry with top actors expressing happiness over today's SC verdict. The Shiv Sena said it was mindless to seek resignations of its ministers in the Maharashtra government saying  rule of law has always prevailed in the state. "Rule of law prevails in Maharashtra. I don't think it is right to politicise the issue. If resignations are being demanded then the matter should go up to Delhi," said Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut responding to a question on BJP leader Kirit Somaiya demanding resignations of Mumbai top cop Param Bir Singh and Maharashtara Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
The FIR in Patna was registered by Singh against Chakraborty and others for alleged offences under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 306 (abetment of suicide), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 380 (theft in dwelling house), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), according to news agency PTI.
