New Delhi: The national capital has reported as many as 17,282 and 104 deaths on Wednesday. In the last 30 days, Delhi alone has seen a 4200% increase in its daily caseload though just a month ago the cases were in a few hundred.


The positivity rate is currently at 15.92%, with 767438 positive cases, which is the highest ever in the state. Notably, 91.92% of ventilator beds are currently occupied, with only 99 beds now available from the total 1226 beds.

According to a survey asking whether they were in favour of a three-week lockdown which was conducted by LocalCircles, 59% of the responses received said 'Yes' while 36% of residents said “No” and 5% couldn’t say. The question in the survey received 8,211 responses residing in 11 districts of Delhi. It was mentioned that essential services should continue so that people face no issues to run their households.

This response changed within a month when a similar survey was conducted in March and only 16% were favour of a lockdown. 




Meanwhile, according to sources, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will hold a press conference at 1 pm on Thursday and will likely announce a weekend shutdown.


Delhi may go under a weekend curfew with stricter guidelines as Delhi’s positivity rate has also spiked to 15.92 %, a sharp rise from 13.14 % on Tuesday.


With a sharp rise in deaths due to the latest surge in Covid-19, crematoriums and burial grounds in the city are struggling to manage resources. On Wednesday, health minister Satyendar Jain said that the Covid-19 cases are rising very rapidly every single day and “there is no slow down” in the spread of the pandemic in the national capital.
