Kolkata: Rezaul Haque Congress candidate from Samsherganj in Murshidabad district. On Thursday morning, Rezaul Haque passed away at a hospital in Kolkata, he had tested positive for Covid-19 and was undergoing treatment. 


Haque, was initially admitted to a private hospital in Jangipur on Wednesday, but later referred to a medial facility in Kolkata after his condition deteriorated at night.


He died around 5 am, the sources told PTI.

Polling in Murshidabad is set for Phase VII which will be held on April 26th, 2021. Congress had fielded Mohammad Rezaul Haque as its candidate from the Samsherganj seat. 


Recently, about 14 crude bombs were recovered at the Shamsherganj area of poll-bound West Bengal's Murshidabad district on Monday.



The incident came into light ahead of the fifth phase of assembly polls in the state on April 17 and the Election Commission has barred the entry of any political leader in the Cooch Behar district for the next 72 hours.



Polling for the first four phases has been concluded in West Bengal. The fifth and sixth phases of the ongoing elections will take place on April 17 and April 22. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.


The state assembly election is being held for all 294 seats wherein the voting continues to place in 1,01,916 polling stations all over West Bengal.
