The Congress party on Monday questioned the decision of the Bank of Baroda (BoB) to reportedly withdraw the e-auction notice for the Juhu bungalow of BJP MP Sunny Deol, asking who triggered the "technical reasons" for the same. In a social media post, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said that on Sunday afternoon the nation got to know that BoB put up the Juhu residence of actor Sunny Deol for e-auction because of non-payment of Rs 56 crore owed to the Bank. However, he added, that this morning the auction notice was withdrawn due to 'technical reasons'.
"Yesterday afternoon the nation got to know that Bank of Baroda had put up the Juhu residence of BJP MP Sunny Deol for e-auction since he has not paid up Rs 56 crore owed to the Bank. This morning, in less than 24 hours, the nation has got to know that the Bank of Baroda has withdrawn the auction notice due to 'technical reasons'," he said.
"Wonder who triggered these 'technical reasons'?" Ramesh further said.
Notably, according to PTI, the state-owned Bank of Baroda had put on the block a villa of 'Gadar 2' actor Sunny Deol in Juhu to recover Rs 56 crore through an e-auction to be held on August 25.
Deol has been in default on a Rs 55.99 crore loan from the BoB and interest and penalty, since December 2022, the second largest state-owned lender said in a public tender on Sunday, as quoted by PTI.
However, the auction notice has now been withdrawn, media reports said on Monday. The Bollywood actor has been representing the ruling BJP from the Punjab seat since 2019 after winning the seat with a big margin defeating the then Congress member Sunil Jhakar.
The recent film of the Gurdaspur MP, Gaddar 2, has proved to be a box office success having already grossed over Rs 300 crore since its release last week, the agency reported.
