SpiceJet Aircraft's Tyre Bursts On Landing At Mumbai Airport, Passengers Safe

Flight SG-8701 left Delhi around 7.30 am and touched down around 9 am at Mumbai airport.

A tyre of a SpiceJet aircraft coming from Delhi burst while landing at Mumbai airport on Monday. No fumes or smoke was detected even as the aircraft landed safely on the runway, ANI reported.

Flight SG-8701 left Delhi around 7.30 am and touched down around 9 am at Mumbai airport. The main runway had to be shut down for inspection after the incident.

"SpiceJet B737-800 aircraft operated flight SG-8701 (Delhi – Mumbai). Aircraft landed safely on runway. On landing, after vacating runway, one tyre was found deflated. No fumes or smoke was reported. Aircraft was parked at designated bay as advised by ATC," a SpiceJet spokesperson said.

"No abnormality was felt by the Captain during landing. Passengers disembarked normally," the spokesperson further said.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is likely to deregister two more B737 aircraft leased to SpiceJet The request for deregistration was made by Irish lessor Horizon Aviation, IANS reported. Earlier this month, the DGCA had deregistered four B737s.

Deregistration requests of flights is usually filed if a lessor and airline fail to reach a payment negotiation. Deregistration process is generally allowed after the aviation regulator checks if the aircraft has any pending dues from tax authorities and airports.

Earlier, the budget carrier had said that it planned to replace all its older Boeing aircraft with the new Max model in a phased manner and till the next calendar year, it would induct around 20 new Max planes into its fleet.

SpiceJet is operating nearly 50 per cent of its flights following orders of the DGCA. In July, the aviation regulator had imposed the curb on the airline's flights for a period of eight weeks as its planes were involved in multiple incidents of technical malfunction.
