Chandigarh: The blame game has reached its zenith in Punjab ahead of the assembly elections to be held next year. Even as Punjab continues to witness the tussle between Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and his Congress colleague Navjot Sindh Sidhu, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Gujral has now accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of helping the grand old party during the 2017 assembly elections.
Gujral alleged that the BJP got its votes transferred to the Congress’ account during the last elections so that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) could be prevented from conquering Punjab.
Asserting that even the leaders who have left the BJP are confirming the same, he said that this was a major reason for the rift between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal.
The AAP also escalated its attack on the political opponents post the Shiromani Akali Dal MP’s claims.
The AAP said it is facing opposition because the parties in the fray know that if it comes to power in the Congress-ruled state then the rest of the parties will be marginalized in Punjab like the BJP and Congress has been in Delhi.
The Shiromani Akali Dal has tied up with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the 2022 assembly polls after parting ways with the BJP due to disagreement on the new agricultural laws.
The AAP has, meanwhile, stepped up its campaign in Punjab and is sparing no effort to go beyond Delhi.

Congress, on the other hand, has made up its mind to contest the elections under Captain Amarinder Singh’s leadership.
