A former member of parliament from Rajya Sabha and senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Madhya Pradesh Kailash Sarang passed away at a hospital on November 14, in Mumbai. The former parliamentarian who worked closely with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpai is survived by two sons and three daughters. His son Vishwas Sarang served as minister in the Madhya Pradesh government and is currently representing his father’s party from the Narela constituency in Bhopal, in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative assembly.

The former Rajya Sabha MP also wrote a book on PM Narendra Modi titled "Narendra to Narendra", mentioning the ups and downs in the life of the Prime Minister, the book described the journey from the days of Narendra Modi's struggle to assuming power of the country.

Soon after the news of the senior leader’s demise reached the media, expressing his grief PM Modi took to Twitter and said, "Shri Kailash Sarang Ji made stupendous efforts to strengthen the BJP across Madhya Pradesh. He will be remembered as a compassionate and hardworking leader, committed to MP’s progress. Anguished by his demise. Condolences to his family and well-wishers. Om Shanti."



One of the founding members of the BJP and the Jan Sangh, Sarang even served jail time after he opposed the emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi.

On the demise of the veteran leader from the state, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that Sarang's mortal remains will be brought from Mumbai to Bhopal at 9 am on 15 November and will be laid to final rest at 4 pm with full state honors.

The senior leader also worked closely with the Scindia family’s Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia and Lal Krishna Advani to strengthen Jan Sangh.

Former CM of Rajasthan Vasundhra Raje Scindia took to Twitter and said, “The sad news of the death of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Honorable Kailash Sarang ji due to prolonged illness was received.  God grant them goodwill, and his son cabinet minister VishvasSarang, and provide support to the family in this difficult time.”
