Shopian: Security forces eliminated 2 terrorists in an overnight encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian town. This took the number of terrorists killed in the encounter to 3 as 1 terrorist was killed on Saturday night.


"Police and security forces made sincere efforts to take the surrender of newly recruited terrorist. Parents also made appeals but other terrorists didn’t allow him to surrender," the police informed in a tweet earlier today.


According to a PTI report, Police officials launched a search operation in the Hadipora area of the south Kashmir district based on specific information about the presence of terrorists. When the forces were conducting the search, terrorists opened fire upon them leading to the encounter

According to the police, the slain militants include a new recruit for whom, security forces made sincere efforts to make him surrender.


"Parents also made appeals. But other terrorists didn't let him surrender," Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said.


The search operation in the area is underway. Meanwhile, another encounter is also going on in Bijbihara of Anantnag since Saturday evening.


Before this, Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have solved the attack case on Sopore Municipal Council in which two councillors and one policeman were killed. The brazen attack was carried out by two Lashkar militants, including one Pakistani who are still at large, while police have arrested 6 over-ground workers (OGW) who helped in the attack. 


SSP Sopore Sudhanshu Verma-IPS while briefing the media said that immediately after the attack on 29th March, Jammu and Kashmir police with the help of other security agencies had launched multiple cordons and search operations in the areas adjoining Sopore.
