The mother of Anuj Thapan has moved the Bombay High Court alleging that her son, who was arrested for firing outside Salman Khan's house, was given third degree torture by the police which lead to his death in custody. Thapan's mother Rita Devi has filed a petition in the high court seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the death of her son while under police custody.
Devi's petition claims that Thapan was mal-treated, and was given three degree torture by the police of crime branch, Mumbai in connivance with Salman Khan.
Thapan reportedly comitted suicide inside jail on May 1 after he was arrested on April 26 along with three other persons by the crime branch of the Mumbai police for allegedly providing arms to the other accused in connection with the firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's house.
In her petition the mother of the deceased claims that her son was brutally assaulted and tortured by the police. The plea further denies the suicide claim by police and alleges that he was murdered by the Crime Branch of Mumbai police.
The petition in the high court further seeks directions to preserve the CCTV footage and call data records (CDR) of the police officials between April 24 to May 2. It also seeks direction from the court to carry out a fresh post mortem on his death.
Thapan was remanded to police custody till April 30 after being arrested on April 26.
The Police had invoked Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act in the case of firing outside Salman Khan's residence.
The court had sent all Thapan to police custody till May 8.
On May 1, it was reported that Thapan committed suicide in police custody.
On April 14, gunshots were reported outside the Mumbai residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan early in morning. At around 4:51 am, two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle fired multiple rounds in the air outside Salman's home in Bandra before fleeing the scene.
Later, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's brother Anmol Bishnoi took responsibilty for the accident in n alleged social media post and called the firing only a 'trailer' and also issued a warning to the actor.
