New Delhi: A show with 1000 drones will be on display during the Beating Retreat Ceremony on January 29 at Vijay Chowk. This drone show will be done with the help of IIT Delhi. So far, only three countries have been able to do so, which includes, US, Russia, and China.

The Beating Retreat Ceremony is organised every year after the Republic Day Celebration on January 29. The programme is organised in front of Rashtrapati Bhawan on Raisina Road.

The four-day-long Republic Day celebration culminates with the Beating Retreat. The ceremony marks the return of the Army to its barracks.

World over there is a tradition of beating retreats. During the battles, the armies would go back to their camps at sunset which was followed by a musical ceremony which was called the Beating Retreat.

The Beating Retreat ceremony started in India in the 1950s. Major Robert of the Indian Army back then completed this ceremony with a display of bands of the armies. The chief guest during the Beating the Retreat ceremony is the President.

Apart from the drone show that is going to be one of the key highlights of the Republic Day celebration this year, another thing that people are waiting eagerly for is the air past of 75 aircraft that would fly over the Rajpath during the Republic Day parade.

Five Rafale jets would fly in a Vinaash formation whereas Navy’s MiG29K and P8I aircraft would also participate for the first time.

As Republic Day 2022 will be celebrated it will be the second Republic Day celebration during the Covid-19 pandemic. With a recent surge in cases, no foreign dignitaries will be invited for the celebration.
