Around 15,000 bank cheques valued at Rs 22 crore collected by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) for construction of Ayodhya’s Ram temple have bounced due to insufficient funds in the bank accounts of the donors or some technical fault.
This came to the fore following an audit report of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, a trust set up by the Central Government, for the temple’s construction.
Dr Anil Mishra, one of the trust members of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, said the banks have asked the people to make donations again and working to solve the issue of technical glitches, PTI reported.

Around Rs. 5,000 crore donations, including about 2,000 cheques from Ayodhya, were collected by the VHP during a nationwide campaign earlier between January 15 and February 17.
The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra has, however, not yet declared the final figures collected during the drive.

Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra’s general secretary Champat Rai had earlier in December 2020 said that the temple in Ayodhya would be built using domestic funds collected from the general public through a mass contact program, adding the trust does not have required approvals for accepting donations from abroad.
Rai then said the voluntary donations from Rambhakts will be accepted for which coupons of Rs 10, Rs 100, and Rs 1,000 will be made available, adding the trust has printed four crore coupons of Rs 10 denomination, eight crore coupons of Rs 100 and 12 lakhs coupons of Rs 1,000 denomination in a bid to maintain transparency in financial dealings and transactions.
The trust’s general secretary further said the CSR funds can be considered for the temple’s adjoining buildings of the temple, adding no target has been fixed for collecting funds.
