New Delhi: A man who was seen brandishing a gun during the Ram Navami rally in Howrah was arrested from Bihar’s Munger, said the Howrah Police on Tuesday. Following the arrest, the Trinamool Congress accused BJP of inciting violence an said the Saffron party's “provocation plot was established”.
Meanwhile, over 170 people were arrested in Bihar’s Nalanda and Sasaram after the violence that erupted during Ram Navami festivities.
A ‘sadbhavana march’ was taken out by leaders of political parties, stalwarts of all religions, and the district administration in Biharsharif on Tuesday.
19-Year-Old Youth Arrested In Connection With Hooghly Violence
A 19-year-old man, Sumit Shaw who was seen with a weapon during the Ram Navami procession in Howrah, was arrested from Bihar’s Munger, said the Howrah Police on Tuesday. Following the arrest, the Trinamool Congress BJP of inciting the violence.
“In the incident that happened in Howrah on Ram Navami, there was a boy visible in the procession of BJP who was carrying a revolver. This provocation plot of the BJP is established now. Howrah police arrested him in Munger, Bihar. This case has been assigned to CID,” said Kunal Ghosh, TMC Bengal General Secretary.
Mamata Banerjee Fears Violence On Hanuman Jayanti, Subhendu Adhikari Alleges Polarisation
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that another round of violence is planned in the state on the upcoming Hanuman Jayanti and asked "Hindu brothers" to defend minorities. She further stated that political workers carrying weapons and bombs are staging Ram Navami processions in minority communities long after the holiday has ended to stir violence.
Meanwhile, the BJP also launched attacks on Banerjee alleging her of wooing Muslim voters. BJP MP Locket Chatterjee said that the Bengal CM was doing all this to get the 30 per cent Muslim vote after losing the Sagardighi bypolls.
BJP leader Subendu Adhikari said how could the Ram Navami rally be attacked without provocation…it is the result of Mamata’s politics of polarization.
Sadbhavana March In Biharsharif
After the violence in Bihar’s Nalanda, leaders of all the parties of the district, stalwarts of all religions, and the district administration jointly took out the Sadbhavna March in Biharsharif after the situation improved in violence-affected areas, reported ANI.
Over 170 Arrested In Nalanda, Sasaram
At least 130 people have been arrested in Nalanda and 43 people are held in Sasaram. Nalanda DM has announced that the houses of those against whom there are allegations and warrants have been issued will be attached. Section 144 was imposed in Sasaram due to clashes between two groups after the Ram Navami celebrations on March 31.
