Rajouri Garden Murder: Fugitive Gangster Himanshu Bhau Claims Responsibility In Social Media Post
Aman Joon, hailing from Haryana's Jhajjar, was shot several times in a Burger King outlet in Rajouri Garden's J Block on Tuesday.
After a 26-year-old man died after being shot at several times in a food joint in Rajouri Garden on Tuesday, the Delhi Police suspect that the conspiracy for killing him was hatched by fugitive gangster Himanshu Bhau, who sought to avenge the murder of a relative of jailed gangster Neeraj Bawana. The development happened after a social media post of Bhau, taking responsibility for the incident, surfaced on social media, news agency PTI reported.
Now, the killing is being viewed as a consequence of an ongoing gang war between jailed gangsters Ashok Pradhan and Neeraj Bawana.
The victim, identified as Aman Joon, was shot dead late evening on Tuesday, by two men at the fast food restaurant, where he was sitting with a woman. The police suspect that she was the one who reeled him in at the behest of gangster Himanshu Bhau, PTI reported.
Besides, there was another man who was standing outside the food joint on his bike, who the police suspect was also involved in the murder.
The Bhau-Bawana gang used the woman, in her 20s, to call Joon at the food joint, the report said citing a senior police officer. According to the officer, the recovered CCTV footage shows Joon entering the eatery, where the woman was already waiting for him.
"Minutes after he sat there, two men came and sprayed him with bullets, firing at least 38 rounds, and left him dead right there before fleeing," the officer said, adding that the "woman also fled the spot, possibly with his mobile phone."
Another police officer told PTI that it is believed Joon had tipped off Ashok Pradhan about the presence of Shakti Singh, Bawana's cousin, in Jhajjar in October 2020.
"The attackers had been looking for an opportunity to call Joon somewhere far off his village to avenge Shakti Singh's killing," the officer stated.
Police Yet To Verify Authenticity Of Social Media Post
In the social media post, which appeared hours after the murder, Bhau said that the gang avenged the killing of 'Shakti Dada,' allegedly killed by a rival gang. In addition to this, the post also mentioned the names of gangsters Neeraj Bawana, Naveen Bali, Neeraj Faridpur, and Kala Kharampur. "The killings will continue," it also said.
"The post also read 'Bhau Gang since 2020' and '14 ke badle 40 goli di hain ginti kar lo' (gave 40 bullets against your 14, you can count)," the officer told PTI.
However, the authenticity of the social media post is currently being verified by the police.
The officer also stated that the Bhau gang operates in Delhi and Haryana, and is notorious for making extortion bids.
Spain-based gangster Himanshu Bhau, is an associate of jailed gangster Neeraj Bawana and had fled to Portugal in 2022. Since then, he has been running the gang from there, the police said. Interpol issued a red-corner notice against him in 2003.
In May 2024, Bhau and his gang members were booked by the Delhi police under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for threatening businessmen and running a syndicate of extortion.
Police Have Identified Woman Who Was With Joon
Police identified the woman, who was spotted at the food joint with Joon on Tuesday. She is facing cases in Haryana and once lived in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar to prepare for competitive exams. On Wednesday, a team of the Crime Branch visited the PG where she lived.
According to CCTV footage retrieved from metro stations, she boarded a train from GTB Nagar Metro Station to reach Rajouri Garden, where the incident occurred.
After the murder, she boarded the metro from Rajouri Garden Metro Station and deboarded at Shakurpur, the officer told PTI.
Several teams have been formed to identify the assailants by working out the technical and manual intelligence, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer said.
"Till Wednesday morning, the identity of the victim was a mystery since police could find no identity papers on him, nor his phone. When they checked his body, police found a bus ticket and a phone charger in his pockets. To establish his identity his photo was circulated across several state's police, and at length, he was identified as Aman Joon of Jhajjar," the officer said, adding that his brother had identified his body.
