According to the reports, among those infected with the novel disease include MLA's wife beside 17 other relatives of the same family.

Giriraj Singh Malinga is a third-term Congress MLA from Bari constituency in Dholpur in Rajasthan. In 2018 state polls, Malinga had defeated Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Jasvant Singh Gurjar by 19,685 votes.

Meanwhile, with the daily surge in numbers India recorded 14,821 Coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours taking the total number of infections over 4.25 lakhs. The number of active cases in the country is at 1,74387 while 13,699 people have lost their lives to the virus.

The recovery rate of the country stands at 55.8 per cent while the mortality rate is at 3.2 per cent with 445 deaths in the last 24 hours.

While Maharashtra continues to be the hotbed of the country with over 60,000 cases, the national capital on the other hand has surpassed Tamil Nadu. Delhi is now in second place with 59,744 total cases and 2175 fatalities due to the virus.

Rajasthan is the sixth worst-hit state of India in terms of infections, after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, as per the data of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.


67 fresh cases of the infections were reported on Monday which pushed the state's tally to 14,997. Among the fresh cases, Ajmer, Jhunjhunu and Kota each reported 6 new COVID-19 patients. Dausa on the other hand recorded 5 cases, Dholpur 10, Tonk 2 and Sirohi. The maximum cases were registered in the state capital  Jaipur which saw 28 new Coronavirus cases.

With the latest updates from the state health department, the total active cases in the state are now 2,987. The death toll stands at 349.
