Amid the intense political turmoil in Rajasthan triggered by the simmering differences and infighting between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is set to chair a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) at the Fairmont Hotel in Jaipur later in the day.

The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting to be held on Thursday (July 30) comes a day after state Governor Kalraj Mishra issued an order to convene the Legislative Assembly session from August 14, bringing an end to a long standing deadlock over the resumption of legislative activities in the sate. As part of his order, the Governor also underlined the importance of social distancing measures to be strictly adhered to by the legislators in the session, as per the Centre's guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The Governor's directives to convene an Assembly session come at the behest of repeated requests made by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot whose Congress government is testing heavy waters due to the internal rifts emerging between his and sacked deputy CM Sachin Pilot's faction.

The Rajasthan Congress has been jolted with the simmering tensions between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot with the latter having expresses his dissent and over not been granted the Chief Ministerial position, as promised by the party higher command after winning the Assembly elections back in 2018.

While the Congress has blamed the BJP to have engineered and planned horse-trading of their legislators to bring down the Gehlot government, the opposition party in the state has slammed these allegations saying they do not have anything to do with the internal fault lines in the ruling party.
