WATCH: Rahul Gandhi Visits Delhi Vegetable Market, Woman Tells Him ‘Gold Must Be Cheaper Than Garlic’
Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi interacted with housewives during a visit to a vegetable market in Delhi, highlighting surging food prices. He criticised the government over inflation.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi visited the Giri Nagar vegetable market in Delhi, interacting with housewives who shared their struggles with surging food prices. Rahul criticised the government for neglecting the common man's plight and shared a five-minute video of his visit on social media.
In his post on X, the Congress MP remarked, "Garlic was once Rs 40, today it is Rs 400! Rising inflation has spoiled the budget of the common man's kitchen - the government is sleeping like Kumbhakaran!" He highlighted how soaring prices of essential items have left people grappling to meet their daily needs.
During his market visit, Rahul accompanied women as they negotiated with vendors over vegetable prices. One woman quipped, "Gold must be cheaper than garlic," underlining the exorbitant rates. The Congress leader discussed prices of items like garlic, peas, and mushrooms, noting how their escalating costs had disrupted household budgets.

"We discussed the prices of garlic, peas, mushrooms, and other vegetables and heard the real experiences of the people. Garlic at Rs 400 per kg and peas at Rs 120 per kg have shaken everyone's budget. What will people eat, and what will they save?" the Lok Sabha LoP questioned.
Over tea, Rahul Gandhi listened to the challenges faced by the women. He noted, "We closely understood the problems of housewives - how income has remained stagnant while inflation has risen uncontrollably. Saving has become impossible, and arranging even a rickshaw fare of Rs 10 is difficult after managing food expenses."
He urged citizens to share their personal stories of dealing with inflation, stating, "Tell us how you are struggling with this problem - you know the condition of the market, you too share your personal experiences with us."
