Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has welcomed a new member into the Gandhi family — a pet dog named "Noorie". In a heartwarming gesture, Rahul Gandhi introduced Noorie to his mother and former Congress chief, Sonia Gandhi, as a delightful surprise. In August, Rahul Gandhi travelled to Goa to bring home Noorie, a Jack Russell Terrier puppy adopted from a dog kennel in North Goa's Mapusa.

To mark World Animal Day, Rahul Gandhi shared a touching video on YouTube. The video begins with Rahul Gandhi sharing his surprise plan with Sonia Gandhi.

“A little surprise for Ma,” Rahul announces as he invites Sonia Gandhi to come outside. Moments later, Sonia Gandhi uncovers a box on a table, revealing the adorable Noorie. Clearly delighted, Sonia Gandhi exclaims, "She is so cute".

Alongside the video, Rahul Gandhi expressed his joy in a written message, stating, “I would like you all to meet the newest and the cutest member of our family - our li'l pup, Noorie. She flew in from Goa straight into our arms and has become the light of our lives. Unconditional love and uncompromising loyalty - there is so much this beautiful animal can teach us! We must pledge to protect and share our love with all living beings. #WorldAnimalDay.” The video has garnered much love and appreciation on social media.

One user commented, "He is a man of feelings. He is an animal lover too. Not only a leader but also a man with humanity". Another added, "The way the dog expressed its happiness by wagging its tail ferociously melted my heart".

World Animal Day, observed on October 4, is a global celebration that began on March 24, 1925, in Berlin, Germany, and was organised by cynologist Heinrich Zimmermann. Zimmermann chose this date to coincide with St. Francis of Assisi's feast day, a patron saint known for his love and care for animals and nature. Since then, the celebration has evolved into a global movement dedicated to animal welfare and conservation.
