Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has responded to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent remarks on the country's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Gandhi said Shah does not know the history and he is doing so to divert from the real issues like caste census, OBC welfare and others. The former Congress chief said that he does not expect Shah to know history as the latter "keeps rewriting" it.

"The real issue is caste census. PM is OBC but why only three out of 90 secretaries of the Central Government are OBC? Nehru gave his life to the country, and remained in jail for years. Amit Shah does not know history," the Congress MP said.

He said the core issues are the caste census and the fact that 'who is getting people's money?'.  "They do not want to discuss this issue, they run away from this. We will take this issue forward and make sure that the poor get what they deserve...Even our CM in Chhattisgarh was from the OBC, they too announced an OBC CM, but the question is what percentage of them are in the structure?" he said.

Gandhi said that PM Modi is from the OBC category but the Govt is run by "90 people and only three out of them are from OBC and their offices are in a corner." "My question is about the participation of OBCs, Dalits and tribals in the institutional system. They talk about Jawaharlal Nehru and others to distract us from this issue..." he added.

The remarks came after Shah spoke on Nehru's "mistakes" while speaking on Kashmir during the discussion on Jammu and Kashmir (Reservation), Bill 2023.
