On Sunday, three children died in a horrific train accident on the Lohand bridge near Kiratpur Sahib in Punjab. One child, fortunately, survived with injury, news agency ANI reported.
While two kids perished on the scene, the third was critically injured and had his arm amputated as a result of the accident. He later died on his way to the hospital.
"2 children died on spot. One died on way to hospital. 4th one is being treated. Children had come here to eat berries off trees & did not realise a train was approaching them," ASI GRP, Jagjit Singh was quoted by ANI on its official Twitter handle.
When train number 04501 from Saharanpur to Una in Himachal Pradesh arrived close to Kiratpur Sahib, the tragedy happened. Near the Lohand bridge on the Sutlej, a train ran over four kids who had gone to pick Jujube (ber) and were crossing the bridge.
Vicky (10) and Pawan (10) were both unharmed, however Rohit Kumar (11), Mahindra (7), and Vicky (10) perished in the event. The victim's parents were labourers who lived close to railroad tracks, Hindustan Times reported.
The fourth child to escape the disaster, Pawan, the son of Baharan, claimed they were returning across a railway bridge after eating jujube (ber) fruit across a river. They were unaware of the train until it was too late since they couldn't hear it. Two people passed away immediately, and one died on route to the hospital. As he dropped off the railway line and clung to the bridge, according to Pawan, he managed to escape, HT reported.
