Among the killed terrorists, two are believed to be local, while one is reported to be from Pakistan. However, the official confirmation of the identities is yet to be made.
Meanwhile, curfew has been imposed in Pulwama and the internet has been barred in the area. The operation is over.
The firing started after CASO launched by a joint team of army and police in the area near District Police Lines near the main town. The joint team of forces intensified the search. Terrorists also opened fire, leading to an encounter. Heavy exchange of fire took place between the forces and the terrorists.
Earlier on Sunday, two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. The security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Hend Sitapur area in south Kashmir in the early hours of Sunday morning following a specific information about the presence of militants there, a police spokesperson said. Weapons and other materials were seized from the site of the encounter.
