President Droupadi Murmu has revoked the suspension of A Koan, a 2009-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the AGMUT cadre. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has ordered his transfer to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with immediate effect, news agency ANI reported. A Koan, previously posted in Goa, was relieved of his duties as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in August last year following allegations of molesting a woman at a nightclub.
Goa Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh had stated that a detailed report was sent to the state government regarding the incident.

Goa CM Pramod Sawant Assured 'Strict Action' After Incident
Amid a row over the incident, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had assured "strict action" against the IPS officer, accused of molesting a woman at a club in the state on the night of August 7, 2023. "Such behaviour would not be tolerated," CM Sawant emphasised in the state assembly after Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLA Vijai Sardesai raised the matter in the House.
Sardesai, without naming the officer, stated in the House that a woman hit an IPS officer in the nightclub when he tried to molest her. The GFP legislator also alleged that the IPS officer had a track record of "misbehaving" with women. He claimed to have a video clip showing the IPS officer asking a woman staffer at a casino "to sit next to him", though he did not specify when the incident occurred.
At that time, DGP Singh took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to defend IPS officers. "Don’t judge officers of IPS based on isolated instance of misdemeanour. They come out of long, arduous and meticulous training to serve the nation. They have sacrificed lives at the altar of nation and are fighting terrorism, insurgency and naxalism and daily crime," Singh wrote.
