Noida: The UP police on Tuesday night arrested the woman leader of Hindu Mahasabha, Pooja Shakun Pandey, from Noida in a case relating to the firing at an effigy of Mahatma Gandhi with an air pistol on his 71st death anniversary. In the case, Uttar Pradesh police had registered FIR against 13 persons associated with Hindu Mahasabha including Pooja Shakun Pandey. The seven suspects were arrested earlier. The FIR was lodged in this connection under sections 147, 148 and 149 of the IPC.

The incident took place in a house in Aligarh's Naurangabad locality of the city where the Mahasabha had announced that it would observe Gandhi's death anniversary as Shauraya Diwas. They also shouted slogans against Gandhi and in praise of his killer Nathu Ram Godse during the act. Later, the video of the event went viral on social media.



On Monday, the Congress staged a protest against the alleged firing at an effigy of Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary by suspected members of Hindu Mahasabha in Uttar Pradesh.

The activists led by state Congress president G A Mir raised slogans like "Bapu Ka Apmaan Nahi Sahega Hindustan (India will not tolerate insult to the father of nation) and Bapu Amar Rahe" (long live Gandhi) before dispersing off peacefully.
