PM Narendra Modi's meeting with the Council of Ministers comes amidst growing speculation about an imminent Cabinet reshuffle.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he had a "fruitful meeting" with the Council of Ministers amidst growing speculation about an imminent Cabinet reshuffle. The meeting took place at the newly built convention centre at the Pragati Maidan, which will host the G20 summit in September.
"A fruitful meeting with the Council of Ministers, where we exchanged views on diverse policy related issues," PM Modi tweeted after chairing a nearly four-hour meeting of the Union Council of Ministers.
PM Modi also asked his ministers to go all out over the next nine months to inform people about the works done by the government ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
On June 28, Prime Minister Modi held a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda. This meeting followed previous closed-door discussions involving Shah, Nadda, and other prominent figures to assess organisational and political affairs.
The meeting came a day after NCP leader Ajit Pawar and eight other party MLAs joined the Eknath Shinde-led government in Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar was sworn in as the deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra -- a post he will share with BJP's Devendra Fadnavis.
Ahead of the meeting, political corridors were abuzz regarding a reshuffle in the Modi cabinet in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The last time there was a cabinet rejig in 2021, 43 ministers took the oath. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Harsh Vardhan and Prakash Javedkar were dropped in the last reshuffle while Anurag Thakur, Kiren Rijiju and Purushottam Rupala were promoted.
There was also speculation that BJP's organisation in some poll-bound states might also see changes. Elections are due in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram later this year.

Sources told ABP News that new state party presidents were likely to be named for Gujarat, Telangana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka.
According to sources, G Kishan Reddy can be made BJP president of the Telangana unit while Sunil Jakhar can be given the responsibility to head the saffron party's Punjab unit. Meanwhile, Ashwath Narayan or Shobha Karandlaje could be made BJP Karnataka unit President.
