Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday led several MPs as they walked from the old to the new Parliament building to attend the sitting in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers in the new complex. Earlier in the day, PM Modi addressed MPs in the Central Hall of the old Parliament building and recounted the key moments and decisions that were taken in the old Parliament building. "It was here in 1947 that the British did the transfer of power, our Central Hall is a witness of that historic moment," he said.
Modi, flanked by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda, walked from the old Parliament building to the new one, with NDA MPs following them while raising slogans such as 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Vande Matram'.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also walked to the new building separately.
Several opposition MPs were also seen later walking towards the new Parliament complex.
During his speech at the Central Hall, PM Modi proposed that the old Parliament building be known as ‘Samvidhan Saadan.”
He commemorated that the tricolour flag and the national anthem were adopted in this Parliament and India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru gave his ‘tryst with destiny’ speech here.
"So far, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have passed over 4,000 laws. When required, joint sessions were held to chalk out strategies to pass bills. It was this Parliament that let us rectify our mistakes and we passed the law against triple talaq," he added.
PM Modi's speech laid significant stress on "Indian aspiration" in his speech saying it is our responsibility and the expectation of each and every Indian.
