Patna: JDU National President RCP Singh took oath as a Union Minister on Wednesday and has been appointed as the Minister of Steel. JDU finally made a place in Modi's cabinet after the ongoing struggle since the Lok Sabha elections. After 2004, no one from JD(U) was appointed in the Union Cabinet. Current Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was the last inducted Union Minister from JD(U).

It is known that RCP Singh is considered a close aide of Nitish Kumar. RCP Singh, 62, comes from the Chief Minister's home district and has been with him since 1998.

RCP Singh was an officer of the UP cadre of the Indian Administrative Service and was the personal secretary of Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma in the year 1996. During the same time, Nitish Kumar became a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and came in contact with RCP Singh.

When Nitish Kumar became the Railway Minister in 1998, he appointed RCP Singh as his special secretary. RCP Singh remained with Nitish Kumar thereafter.

For a long time, he also worked as the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. In the year 2010, he took voluntary retirement from the Indian Administrative Service. The Chief Minister then sent RCP Singh to the Rajya Sabha.
