Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the Kashi Telugu Sangamam event, which is taking place in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi, as "the confluence of the Ganga and Godavari rivers" on Saturday (April 29). The prime minister addressed the event virtually, welcoming Telugu-speaking people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to his parliamentary constituency. The event takes place at a time when a large number of Telugu-speaking pilgrims are arriving in Varanasi for the ongoing 12-day Ganga Pushkar Alu, a religious congregation held every 12 years.

The 'Sangamam' is organised by the Sri Kashi Telugu Samithi, an organisation of Telugu ashrams and dharmshalas. A month-long Kashi Tamil Sangamam was also held in Varanasi.
