After today’s revision, petrol and diesel prices went up by 28-43 paise in major metro cities of the country. Today a litre of petrol is being sold at Rs 68.88 per litre in the national capital. In Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, petrol is being retailed at Rs 74.53, Rs 71.01 and Rs 71.47 per litre, respectively. Likewise, even diesel prices witnessed a jump in prices with a litre being sold at Rs 62.53 per litre in Delhi. In Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, diesel is being sold at Rs 65.43, Rs 64.30 and Rs 66.01 per litre, respectively.

Over the past three months, petrol rates have come down by over 15 per cent in Delhi while the benchmark Brent crude oil has dipped by 30 per cent. As 80 per cent of India’s fuel requirements are imported, petrol and diesel rates are directly linked to international crude oil rates.
Oil prices fell by 1 per cent on Thursday on swelling US supply, although the mood in global markets was increasingly confident amid hopes the United States and China may soon end trade disputes that have undermined global economic growth, news agency Reuters reported.
On Thursday, Brent crude futures were trading at $60.84 per barrel, down 0.96 per cent from their previous close on swelling US supplies. Crude prices have increased by over 10 per cent in the last six trading sessions.
