Pegasus Row | SC Gives Technical Committee More Time To Submit Report

The CJI further added that the complete report may be ready by May end. Nonetheless, the SC has increased the tenure of the committee until June 28. 

New Delhi: The Supreme Court-appointed technical committee has sought more time from the apex court to submit the report on the Pegasus row. The court said on Friday that the supervising judge would study the technical committee's report and give his opinion to the court by June end. 

The CJI said that they received the interim report recently. The committee scrutinised 29 mobile phones and talked to many people. They asked the common people as well for advice and received many responses. 

The CJI further added that the complete report may be ready by May end. Nonetheless, the SC has increased the tenure of the committee until June 28. 

Pegasus is Israeli-based spyware that sparked controversy in India last year for allegedly spying on politicians, journalists, and activists. when the controversy broke out in India, it happened in other countries as well. The maker of the spyware had said that they only sell the software to governments. 

The SC had set up an expert committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice RV Raveendran in October 2021. The committee was asked to submit the report within eight weeks earlier.
