New Delhi: Barjinder Singh Parwana, the suspected mastermind and major conspirator behind the violent confrontations in Punjab's Patiala, was sentenced to four days in police custody on Sunday, news agency ANI reported.

At 7.20 a.m., the accused was flown from Mumbai to Mohali airport on a Vistara flight. Inspector Shaminder Singh of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Patiala squad nabbed him at the Mohali airport.

Outside the Kali Mata shrine on Friday, violence occurred between members of the Shiv Sena, who had organised an "anti-Khalistan" march, and Sikh activists and Nihangs carrying swords. According to police officials, both sides threw stones at each other during the altercation, which wounded at least four people, including two police officers.

So far, the police have named 25 suspects in six FIRs filed in relation to the event on Friday, which left four people injured. The state's home affairs and justice department halted mobile internet and SMS services from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Even as Patiala was crawling back to normalcy with security troops keeping a strict monitor, the Punjab government dispatched three top police officers, including an inspector general, on Saturday.
