With mercury gradually dropping, the political temperatures are set to rise in the national capital as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party prepares to corner Congressl-led Opposition over the report of the Ethics Committee on TMC MP Mahua Moitra in the 'cash-for-query' case.
Among the bills listed to be tabled in the Lower House of the Parliament, the report by Lok Sabha Ethics Committee into the allegation of the case is also included. The committee has recommended expulsion of the TMC MP from Lok Sabha over the case. The government is also expected to move a motion to adopt the recommendation of the committee.
The Winter Session of the Parliament starts just a day after Bharatiya Janata Party swept the Assembly polls in three out of four states — Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Congress, who was expecting a comeback in Madhya Pradesh and retain Chhattisgarh could only manage to oust Bharat Rashtra Samithi in Telangana.
Ahead of the Monday session of the Parliament, leaders of the Opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc will sit together for a meeting in the chamber of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge to chalk out their strategy in both the Houses, reported PTI quoting sources.
Among the bills that are slated to be tabled in the House during the Winter Session include the new bills to replace the IPC, Criminal Penal Code and the Evidence Act besides the bill on appointment of the chief election commissioner and other election commissioners.
On Saturday, an all-party meeting was convened of the floor leaders presided by Defence minister Rajnath Singh. The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Gaurav Gogoi and Pramod Tewari, TMC leaders Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Derek O'Brien and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Fouzia Khan, among others.

On J&K bills in Lok Sabha, BJP Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal says, "It is a big step from PM Modi for the people of J&K. With this the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, in J&K assembly, seats for SC will be increased to 7 from existing 6 seats. Reservation is also being brought in for members of the ST community, Kashmiri migrants, PoJK refugees and women. With the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 bill, the reservation will be introduced for the weaker sections in jobs government institutions." (ANI)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a discussion on J&K bills in Lok Sabha said, "How can a country have two PMs, two constitutions and two flags? Those who did this, they did wrong. PM Modi corrected it. We have been saying since 1950 that there should be 'Ek Pradhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan' (One Prime Minister, one flag and one Constitution) in the country, and we did it."
