Parliament Monsoon Session HIGHLIGHTS: The Monsoon session of Parliament began on July 20 and will continue till August 11. The session is crucial as the BJP and opposition have sharpened attacks on each other as they gear up for a host of assembly polls this year and the Lok Sabha elections next year. Meanwhile, the session witnessed a stormy start, with the Manipur situation leading to ruckus and adjournments.
While the Opposition INDIA alliance has stuck to their demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the ethnic violence in Manipur, the BJP MPs sought a discussion on the alleged atrocities against women in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal as well.
The Congress party has issued a whip for its Lok Sabha MPs to be present on Wednesday. The development comes amid the reports that Opposition parties, including Congress, will move a no-confidence motion against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government. The Opposition parties have been stalling the proceedings of Parliament since the start of the Monsoon session on July 20.
