Parliament Live HIGHLIGHTS: Rajya Sabha Passes Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2023

Background

Parliament Monsoon Session HIGHLIGHTS: The Monsoon session of Parliament began on July 20 and will continue till August 11. The session is crucial as the BJP and opposition have sharpened attacks on each other as they gear up for a host of assembly polls this year and the Lok Sabha elections next year. Meanwhile, the session witnessed a stormy start, with the Manipur situation leading to ruckus and adjournments.

While the Opposition INDIA alliance has stuck to their demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the ethnic violence in Manipur, the BJP MPs sought a discussion on the alleged atrocities against women in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal as well.

The Congress party has issued a whip for its Lok Sabha MPs to be present on Wednesday. The development comes amid the reports that Opposition parties, including Congress, will move a no-confidence motion against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government. The Opposition parties have been stalling the proceedings of Parliament since the start of the Monsoon session on July 20.

Countrywide outrage erupted after a video went viral on social media in which a mob was seen parading two tribal women naked in Manipur's Kangpokpi on May 4, a day after ethnic violence broke out between majority Meiteis and tribal Kukis over Meiteis' demand for inclusion in Scheduled Tribes (ST) list.

Ahead of the Wednesday session of the Lok Sabha, a Congress Parliamentary Party meeting has been called by the party at 10:30 am at Parliamentary Party office.

The decision to bring the no-confidence motion against the ruling BJP was taken at a meeting of like-minded Opposition floor leaders at the chamber of Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament, sources told ABP News.

On Tuesday, amid sloganeering by Opposition party members, the Lok Sabha passed the Multi-State Co-operatives Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022, which seeks to strengthen cooperatives by making them transparent and introducing a system of regular elections.
