Parliament Likely To Witness Another Day Of Chaos Over Hindenburg Report On Adani Group
Congress-led opposition parties on Thursday demanded a probe into the allegations levelled in the Hindenburg report against a conglomerate company and disruptions are likely to continue on Friday.
New Delhi: Parliament’s Budget session is likely to see another day of disruptions over the claims made by research firm Hindenburg’s report on the Adani group. The opposition parties had stalled the proceedings on Thursday, which will, most likely, be the case on Friday, reported IANS citing sources.
It said that Congress and other major opposition parties like the Trinamool Congress and DMK as well as the Left parties are on the same page over launching vociferous protests against the government over the issue in both the houses today as well.
On Thursday, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge along with other opposition parties called for an investigation into the allegations of fraud levelled against one of India's biggest conglomerates by Hindenburg research firm. He said that the probe must be led either by Supreme Court or a joint parliamentary committee
The Congress president also called a meeting of like-minded opposition parties to discuss strategy in Parliament.
According to IANS, the Lok Sabha is expected to take up the motion of thanks on the President's address, if proceedings are allowed to take off smoothly.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday held a press conference with other Opposition leaders in the national capital and said that people were losing their money in public institutions like LIC and SBI. Kharge's statements were in reference to the Hindenburg report and demanded the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee or Supreme Court to probe into the drain of funds from the public sector banks.
"Today LIC and SBI in which crores of poor people deposit their money has been ruined," Kharge said, adding "people are losing crores of rupees by investing in LIC, SBI and other nationalised banks. We need to have a discussion in Parliament to know the truth," he added.
"Shares of a company fell after Hindenburg's report, the name of the owner of the company is known to all," he said. "How is the government getting money from such a company?" Kharge addded.
"That's why we want an inquiry on this, either a JPC should be formed or an inquiry should be conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court, whose report should be made public on a daily basis," Kharge demanded.
Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav, Shiv Sena MPs Sanjay Raut and Priyanka Chaturvedi, and Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Manoj Jha were present with Kharge during the press conference.
