Series Of Unfortunate Events: Meet Koli From Pak — Rejected By Lover, 'Mistakenly' Enters India, Being Questioned By Agencies

A 21-year-old Pakistani man named Jagsi Koli crossed the international border after a fight with his girlfriend. He was held by the BSF in Barmer district's Japda village and is being interrogated.

A Pakistani man's plan to elope with his girlfriend went awry when he 'mistakenly' entered into India while escaping from her village close to the international border to save himself from her family's wrath. Jagsi Koli, a 21-year-old Pakistani man was caught by the Border Security Force on Sunday morning from Japda village in Rajasthan's Barmer district. The incident has sparked a diplomatic row between the two nations as BSF held a meeting with the Pakistani Rangers to protest against the trespassing.

Koli, a resident of Akli Kharodi in Pakistan's Tharparkar district, crossed the international border and entered India on the night of August 24 and 25. As per media reports, Jagsi was unaware that he had entered into India. He was caught from Jhapda, which is 15 kilometeres from the India-Pakistan border when he was found asking strangers about a bus that he could take to reach Tharparkar village across the border.

A senior BSF officiail who interrogated Koli, who is a class 11 student, told him them that he was in a romantic relationship with a 17-year-old Pakistani girl. He explained that his village was situated 35 km from the IB but his girlfriend's house was just eight km away. Koli said he had gone to meet his girlfriend with a plan to elope with her. However, when he reached her house and told her about his plan she refused, Hindustan Times reported.

After being rejected by her, Koli snatched her scarf and threatened her that he would take his own life by hanging himself from a tree using her scarf. When he attempted to do so, the tree branch broke, causing him to fall. Hearing the commotion, the girl's family arrived at the spot and beat him. Koli then managed to flee somehow to save himself from them but ended up crossing the border, News 18 reported.

His girlfriend is said to be an upper caste Hindu, which is possibly said to be the reason her family was against their relationship, HT reported citing the BSF officer. Though some reports say that he was following a light he saw which led him towards the Japda village, another report says that the man had no idea in which direction was running as it was dark.

BSF had captured his movements in the surveillance cameras along the IB fence, following which they launched a search operation in the area. The BSF officials have't found anything suspicious from him and have handed him over to the local police for further investigation by various security agencies. As per a TOI report, a mobile phone and a diary were recovered from him.

The 21-year-old Pakistani national will now be be produced before the joint interrogation commitee and the necessary formalities will be carried out, Kritika Yadav, Circle Officer, Chohtan police station in Barmer district said.
