Hathras Stampede: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and several other leaders expressed grief over the tragedy in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, where more than 100 people are feared to have been killed in a stampede during a 'satsang' prayer meeting. The Prime Minister's office said that an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh has been announced for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. 


"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the mishap in Hathras. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," the PMO said in an X post. 






Addressing the Lok Sabha, PM Modi said, "I am saddened by the tragic incident in Hathras. My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The state government is actively involved in rescue operations, and the central government is in touch. We will provide all possible assistance to the victims". 


"The news of the death of many devotees including women and children in the accident in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh is heart-rending. I express my deepest condolences to those who lost their family members and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured," President Droupadi Murmu tweeted. 






The stampede occurred during a crowded 'satsang' event in a village under the Sikandra Rao station area. Hathras district Ashish confirmed approximately 90 deaths in his district, with an additional 27 fatalities reported from hospitals in Etah. 


Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed sorrow over the incident, tweeting, "I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. May God give them strength to bear this pain. The local administration is engaged in relief work. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured". 






'Extremely Sad': Oppn On Hathras 'Satsang' Stampede 


Uttar Pradesh former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav said, "We got this information when we were in the Parliament. The question is what was the Govt doing when such an incident took place? So many people have lost their lives. It is sad that if Govt knew that there would be a large gathering at an event, what did they do for their safety?"


"The Govt is responsible for this. Help should be provided to the families of the deceased. I hope that the Govt will ensure the best treatment for the injured," he told reporters. 






Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, and party candidate for Wayanad seat Priyanka Gandhi also expressed grief over the tragedy. 


"The news of the death of many devotees due to a stampede in the Satsang in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. The scenes of the accident are extremely heart-rending. We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We urge the government and administration to leave no stone unturned in treating the injured and provide immediate compensation to the victims. Workers of opposition parties are requested to provide all possible help to the people affected by the accident," Kharge said in an X post.

I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured. The government and administration are requested to provide every possible treatment to the injured and relief to the affected families. All workers of India are requested to provide their cooperation in relief and rescue," Rahul Gandhi said.

I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured. The government and administration are requested to provide every possible treatment to the injured and relief to the affected families. All workers of India are requested to provide their cooperation in relief and rescue," Priyanka said. 






Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and supremo of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Mayawati conveyed her condolences. "It is very sad that a large number of people died and many were injured in a stampede during a religious gathering in Hathras district of UP and a young man was killed during a Buddhist/Bhim Katha in Agra. The government should investigate these incidents and take appropriate action and provide financial assistance to the victim families," she said. 






As per a PTI report, victims, either deceased or unconscious, were transported to Sikandara Rao Trauma Centre in trucks and vehicles, where their bodies were laid outside the health center amid a solemn atmosphere.
